The Christmas Throwdown has become a staple in the local CrossFit Competition scene. Since its debut at Rampage 1.0 in December of 2011 we have continued to host this 1 day, Rx’d only, competition every year because the people love it. We truly enjoy being able to provide a thorough one day test for our local CrossFit athletes to see how your training from the previous year(s) has served you. In 2015 we had numerous “tests” to see how your fitness held up over the course of the day. Although we may limit the overall # of tests to a couple short of what was held in 2015 per logistical reasons, expect the intensity to be the same!
Every year, head programmer, Korey Akers takes into consideration the idea of testing overall fitness. The Christmas Throwdown has been known to pinpoint areas of fitness not traditionally trained or tested in the CrossFit program. For example, the max height hurdle jump from 2016 and max height vertical jump from 2012. We’ve tested the 5/10/5 speed agility from 2015 and the Out-n-back+90degree speed agility test from 2016.
Below you can see some other specific tests we’ve covered over the 5 previous years in the CrossFit Rampage Christmas Throwdown Series:
-Max wattage power output on the rower
-1rm deadlift (2012), 1rm front squat (2013), 1rm push jerk (2013), 1rm snatch (2011)
-2k run for time (2016)
-1.5mile run (2014)
-Gymnastics specific crossfit workouts (Annie got skills. 2014)
-Endurance (aerobic) specific crossfit workouts (little train run Kelly 2012, – Elevation Isabel 2013)
-Individualized skill specific (Max UB muscle ups. 2012, – 30 MU for time 2014, – Max UB Double Unders. 2012)
-Fatigue-recovery test (4min amrap + 4min rest + 7 min couplet ladder. 2013), and The rowing/KBSwing/Over The Rower burpee double interval in 2016.
-Muscular Endurance (The Big Clean Complex. 2014)
Although you can expect classic CrossFit workouts and some strength testing, you’d be wrong to think that you’ll be ready for “everything.” Remember the hanstand shoulder taps from 2014, and the single arm DB Squat Snatch from 2016?!
We don’t want to keep secrets from you this year, (at least not many) so we’ll be releasing this years events so that you can try them out ahead of time and know what to expect.
